The Spirit of Tatá chronicles the remarkable life and final days of Tatá Yawanawá, a revered Amazonian shaman whose deep spiritual knowledge and leadership helped the Yawanawá people survive the pressures of colonization, rubber tapping exploitation, missionary influence, and cultural erosion. Serving as a guardian of sacred language, medicinal knowledge, and ceremonial practice, Tatá’s story represents both the vulnerability and resilience of indigenous cultures worldwide.
Through intimate footage shot over 12+ weeks in the village of Mutum, and in collaboration with Yawanawá leaders, the film invites global audiences to witness not only Tatá’s personal legacy but also the broader urgency of preserving ancestral ways of knowing before they disappear. With post-production complete — including editing, color-grading, sound mixing, native-language translations, and animated sequences that bring myth and tradition to life — The Spirit of Tatá is currently seeking the right distribution partners to bring the film to a global audience. All profits will be reinvested into community projects that sustain Yawanawá cultural and environmental wellbeing.
